Summary: | Solid, homogeneous marble design PVC flooring is prepd. by a novel multi-stage method. Coloured strips reqd. to produce the marble effect are calendered to required (0.2-0.7mm) thickness and cut into 50-160 mm wide strips first. A semi-finished sheet is prepd. by transferring the monochrome basic mixt. from an extruder, roll mill or internal mixer, to a roll mill, to be homogenised. Tool strips are smoothed onto bands of material, cut off continuously from the roll mill, and placed on a conveyor belt, found between the calender and the roll mill. This operation is carried out with aid of a spec. device, at 150-190 deg.C (opt. reached by infra-red heating). The material is then fed into 1-2 nips of the calender. - The basis and the colourings mixts. have near-identical compsns. and absence of air-bubbles and imperfections is ensured by choice of appropriate flow-adjusting cpds. Marble-patterned semi-finished sheets undergo a finishing operation into homogeneous floor covering. |
