Summary:Hydrogenation catalyst contg. Ni- and Mg-oxide as active components on ceramic support is prepd. The inner core of the support comprises proto-enstatite sintered to form a solid and stabilized by a glass phase. An outer 0.6-1 mm thick surface layer of the support comprises magnesium-silicate with added alpha-corundum. The active component of the catalyst comprises: 0.65-0.76 mol.% nickel-nitrate-hexahydrate and 0.23-0.28 mol.% magnesium-nitrate-hexahydrate, 0.48-0.65 wt.% titanium-dioxide, 0.16-0.38 wt.% gallium-oxide and 0.05-0.25 wt.% zinc-oxide. - When the catalyst is prepd. the solid core is shaped and calcined at 750 +/- 10 deg.C. This is coated with the ceramic outer layer, possessing a pore forming additive and is reignited a 1280 +/- 10 deg.C. The nitrates are fused at 96 deg.C; This molten mass contains in suspension very fine particle size oxides, having been pptd. together from respective organic cpds. The support is impregnated with the active compsn. by being immersed in it for 10-15 secs.(Dwg.0/0)
