Summary:A novel strain of Actinomyces, namely of Streptomyces Galbus, deposited under NO NCAIM(P)001036 of one of its variants or mutants is used for the prepn. of antibiotics indano-mycin of general formula (Ia) and of homo-indano-mycin of general formula (Ib), by aerobic fermentation at 24-32 deg.C. R1 in formula (Ia) represents a methyl and in formula (Ib) an ethyl gp.. Sources of organic carbon and nitrogen and mineral salts are also added to the brew. Prepd antibiotics are isolated from the brew and opt. septd. fron one-another.
