PROCESS FOR PRODUCING AMPHOTERICIN B CRYSTALS IN FERMENTATION MEDIUM
A method for the prodn. of amphotericin B (AB) crystals directly in a fermentation medium comprises (a) cultivating a strain of Streptomyces nodosus in a fermentation medium which is free of organic solvent for AB until antifungal activity is imparted to the medium, (b) heating the medium at 70-130...

Summary: | A method for the prodn. of amphotericin B (AB) crystals directly in a fermentation medium comprises (a) cultivating a strain of Streptomyces nodosus in a fermentation medium which is free of organic solvent for AB until antifungal activity is imparted to the medium, (b) heating the medium at 70-130 deg.C for at least 10 mins. to form crystals of AB and (c) recovering the crystals of AB from the medium. Crystals of AB may be added to the fermentation medium to induce crystal formation. Lysozyme, protease, glucanase, papain, trypsin or pepsin may be added after the heating step to complete the crystal formation. |
