Summary:For the prepn. of 5-substd.-3'-azido-2'.3'-di:-dezoxy- ribo-nucleosides of formula (VI) where R is a hydrogen or a halogen, atom, a 1-3C straight or branched gp.; in this case a subst. alkyl and particularly gp.,-cpds. (I) are tritylated to obtain cpds. (II), which are mesylated to cpds. (III). Mesyl-oxy gps. of cpds. are cleaved off cpds. (III) to yield cpds. (IV). These are de-trithylated at room temp. with acetic acid to cpds. (V). Cpds. (V) and alkali-metal anodes form cpds. (VI). The end product is purified by continuous ethyl-acetate extraction.
