Summary:Poly-hydroxy-phosphomium acids of formula: R,c(CPO3H2) 2-0H-(PO2H-C(PO3H)(R,)-O)n-R, half-ester dervis, and R2-N (C-(R3)2-P(O)(OH)H-(OCH2-CHOH-CH3)M) are prepd from phosphorous and acetic acids at 75-130 deg.C with subsequent addn of aliphatic or aromatic di:carboxylic-acid anhydrides opt. dissolved in aq. alkaki. - Partial esters are prepd with epichloro-hydria; conversely zinc-chloride and aliphatic mono-di-or tri-amines are added at room temp. to phosphorous acid, followed by addn of carbonyl cpds pref. parafasmaldehyde and by heating to 90-110 deg.C. Finally, epichlorohydrin is added after further agitation. Cpds of above description are used as water-hardness scale and common inhibitors. - R,B,H,CH3CO,HOOC-CH=CH-CO, HOOC-CH2-CH2-CO or C6H4(COOH)CO Gps; R,=an alhyl or alkenyl gp. 22=-C(R3)2-P(O)(OH)-(O-CH2CHOH-CH3), CH3-CHOH-CH2-O-P-(O)(OH)- C(R3)2-NH-(CH2)m, CH3-CHOH-CH2-O-P(O)(OH)-C (R3)2- NH-CH2-CH2-N(C-(R3)2-P(O)(OH) -O-CH2-CHOHCH3/CH2-CH3 gps; R3 hydrogen atom, alhyl or eyrl gp; n=1-6; and m=1-3.
