Summary:Lubricating oil compsn. mainly for rail and ship engines consists of (all wt.%-s): 30-80 base oil of 560-690 average mol.wt. and contg. 3.5-16.5 thiophene and 7.0-11.0 sulphide type sulphur cpd., 15-65 heavy oil (viscosity: 7.5-13.6 mm3/s, viscosity index: 80 minimum, and solidification pt.: less than -15 deg.C), 1-6 Ca-alkyl-salicylate and/or -phenoate, 1-6 dispersing agent and opt. 0.01-2.0 antifoam or other customary additive. Prepn. of base oil is also claimed.
