Summary: | 1. Aqueous composition of aminoplastic resin which can be used in a sizing composition for treating discontinuous mineral fibres, characterized in that the resin is obtained by condensation, in a basic medium, of formaldehyde, urea and melamine in the presence of a polymethylol compound having a functionality of at least 3 and the general formula : R-C-(CH2 OH)3 or R-C-(CH2 OH)2 -CH2 -O-CH2 -C(CH2 OH)2 -R wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical which may or may not comprise a hydroxyl group ; - the molar ratio F/M of the number of mols of formaldehyde in relation to the number of mols of melamine being between (0.5 U/M + 1.5) and (3 U/M + 3) ; - the molar ratio U/M of the number of mols of urea in relation to the number of mols of melamine being between 1.5 and 5 ; - the amount of the polymethylol compound being between 0.2 and 2 mols per mol of melamine ; - the resin having a dilutability of at least 1000% at ambient temperature ; - the resin being stable during storage. |
