Summary:Insulating coating for the protection, repair, and renovation of building structures and artifacts against ingress of water and condens. in and out of doors, comprises homogeneous mixt. of 5-50 wt.% polystyrene- (methacrylate) or -butylacrylate copolymer, 5-30 wt.% bitumen or tar and an aromatic hydrocarbon pref. xylene or toluene. After additives are also used namely plasticiser pref. 0.1-5 wt.% dibutylphthalate; UV stabilising agent, pref. 0.1-2 wt.% resorcinol or ethyl-2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate; filler, pref. 1-25 wt.% quartz flour or perlite or ground rubber or a rubber latex. Single or multiple layers of coating are applied. No surface prepn. is necessary and the surface does not have to be entirely dry.
