Summary: | New Grignard reagents are di(dialkylamino)-, di(diarylamino)-, di(di(mono-, di- or tri-alkyl-aryl)amino)- and di(N-heterocyclyl)-methylphenylmagnesium chlorides and bromides (IA). New Grignard reagents are di(dialkylamino)-, di(diarylamino)-, di(di(mono-, di- or tri-alkyl-aryl)amino)- and di(N-heterocyclyl)-methylphenylmagnesium chlorides and bromides of formula (IA); R1, R2 = 1-10C alkyl or alkylene or 6-10C aryl, optionally with up to three 1-4C alkyl substituents, or NR1R2 = a group of formula (II); m, n = 0-2; (m+n) = 1 or more; X = O or CH2; Hal = Cl or Br. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of Grignard reagents (I) containing a protected aldehyde function by (1) preparing an open-chain aminal by reacting a halogenated aldehyde with a secondary monoamine and (2) converting this to a Grignard reagent with metallic magnesium. |
