Summary: | In a process for the epoxidation of propene comprising the steps of epoxidizing propene with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of methanol, separating a crude propene oxide and a solvent mixture, extractive distillation of the crude propene oxide using a compound reactive to acetaldehyde, hydrogenating the solvent mixture and the bottoms product of the extractive distillation, recovering methanol from the hydrogenated mixture by distillation with acid addition, and recycling the recovered methanol to the epoxidation reaction, the use of a diaminoalkane having from 2 to 6 carbon atoms as reactive compound reduces the amount of strongly basic alkyl amines recycled with the methanol to the epoxidation step. |
