Summary:An intelligent cable which permits the continuous monitoring and accurate measurement of fault sites in high-power electric power cables. The intelligent cable contains at least one conductor core and at least one single-layer electrical insulation of the core, wherein an inner measuring sheath is disposed on the core insulation, a measuring insulating layer is disposed on the inner measuring sheath, an outer measuring sheath is disposed on said insulating layer, and an outer main insulation is disposed on the outer measuring sheath. The measuring sheaths consist of an electrically conductive foil or mesh or wires. Notification of damage and localization of the damage site is enabled in that a power supply and a current and power meter are affixed to the measuring sheaths.
