Summary: | The invention relates to 6-oxopyrido(2,1-α) and (1,4)thiazino(3,4-a)(2)benzazepine-4-carboxylic acid derivatives and their preparation and also to intermediates which can be used in the preparation. The said derivatives have a pharmacological effect by inhibiting angiotensin converting enzyme and they can be used for treating hypertension. The novel compounds have the formula in which R and R1 are independently hydrogen; alkyl; substituted alkyl; aryl; substituted aryl; heteroaryl; or substituted heteroaryloxy; R2 is hydrogen, straight-chain or branched alkyl, alkenyl or alkinyl; cycloalkyl, arylalkyl; or substituted alkyl; R3 is H, alkyl, phenyl or benzyl; R4 is a natural amino acid residue, and R3 and R4 have been linked, by way of the carbon atoms to which they are bonded, in order to form a 6-8-membered condensed ring which optionally contains a sulfur or oxygen atom, and R5 and R6 are independently hydrogen, hydroxyl; halogen; alkyl; or alkyloxy. |
