Summary:The use of biodegradable microspheres that liberate a radiosensitive anticancer agent at the site of surgery to remove glioblastoma, these being used in conjunction with radiotherapy, is new. The use of biodegradable microspheres that liberate a radiosensitive anticancer agent at the site of surgery to remove glioblastoma, these being used in conjunction with radiotherapy. The microspheres containing the anticancer agent are coated with a polymer that delays and prolongs the liberation of the active material, and are inserted into the area of the excision at least every square cm to a depth of 2 - 3 cm so as to maintain a therapeutically-effective concentration in the parenchymal space whilst radiotherapy is carried out, increasing the patient's survival time by at least 90 weeks. The microspheres are administered in a suspension containing 1 - 1.5 % (weight/volume) of a viscous agent, 0.5 - 1.5 % of a surfactant, and 3.5 - 4.5 % of an isotonic agent.
