A tetracycline antibiotic composition comprises at least one tetracycline antibiotic, a mixture of amino acids and glucosamine or a salt thereof. Specified tetracyclines are tetracycline, chlortetracycline, oxytetracycline, bromotetracycline, 6 - demethylchlortetracycline, 6 - dexoxy - 6 - demethyltetracycline, tetracyclinemethylene tetracycline and chlortetracycline methylene chlortetracycline. The mixture of amino acids is preferably that obtained by the lysis of the mycelium obtained in the fermentation of a penicillin-producing penicillium or a substantially identical mixture of amino acids; and the glucosamine may be that contained naturally therein. A preferred mixture consists of l-aspartic acid 14 mg, glutamic acid 28 mg, glycine 10 mg, dl-alanine 13 mg d,l-serine 4 mg, dl-threonine 1 mg, l-tyrosine 1 mg, dl-valine 9 mg, methionine 10 mg, leucine 16 mg, phenylalanine 1 mg, histidine HCl 5 mg, lysine HCl 11 mg, arginine 3 mg and glucosamine NCl 24 mg.
