Summary:900,351. Cathode-ray tubes. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 12, 1960 [Oct. 23, 1959], No. 36024/59. Class 39 (1). An electron discharge device comprises an electron gun 1, a target 9, scanning means 3, 4, and parallel, apertured-plate electrodes 5, 7 forming with the target an electron lens. The positions of the electrodes relative to the target and the potentials applied to the electrodes and target are such that the principal focus of the lens is located at the effective centre of deflection of the beam, whereby the beam impinges normally on the target, and the beam is focused on the target. Preferably, electrode 7 is at a potential intermediate those of electrode 5, e.g. 500 volts, and target 9, e.g. ground or cathode potential, so that the beam impinges on the target with a low velocity. The target may comprise a photo-conductive or photo-emissive material.
