A cord 1 comprising strands 2 of rubber or synthetic-elastomer covered with braided-layers 3, 4 of cotton, has a hook 5 of stiff wire on at least one end, having a hook-portion 6 and an annular-portion 7 which can slide on the cord 1, a cap 8 of rubber or plastics-material being attached, e.g. by a staple 9 to the end of the cord 1 and being of such dimensions that the hook 5 is retained on the cord 1 by the cap.
