In the longitudinal cutting of a continuous glass sheet 15 the glass is scored under compression by an adjustable cutter 16 positioned on one face of the glass between two adjustable wheels 18 which act on the other face. Before the cut has healed, the sheet passes between two rollers 22 acting on the scored surface and a roll 20 acting on the other surface thereby applying tension to the glass in the neighbourhood of the score and so completing the cut.
