Summary:724,089. Pens and penholders for recording apparatus. FOXBORO CO. June 7, 1951 No. 13560/51. Class 146 (3). [Also in Group XIX and XXIX] A pen arm 7 terminating in a penholder 9 carrying one of a number of interchangeable pens 10 housed in a magazine 11 is used in recording-apparatus (see Group XIX) which records successively on one chart the values of a number of variable conditions, the pen arm being positioned in accordance with each variable in turn and between each positioning being swung off the chart for pen changing and inking or pen wiping and re-inking so that each mark on the chart is characteristic of the condition whose value it records. The lower end of arm 7, Fig. 13, is curved and carries a magnet 9a secured by rivets 9b. The magnet is preferably made of a light-weight, highly magnetized material and tightly holds a pen 10a made of magnetizable material. The pen shank may, alternatively, be attached to the arm by known clasp mechanism. The shape of the pen tip and the'material such as metal, wood or plastic of which it is made is determined by factors such as the ink used, the character of the chart surface and the size and nature of the mark desired. Three kinds of pen tips are shown in Fig. 15.
