Summary:A device for collecting a biological sample from breath of a user and condensing it. The device consists of a tube 32 for exhaling breath into the device, a collection chamber 34 in fluid communication with the tube and a receptacle. The inner wall of the collection chamber acts as a capture surface. The receptacle contains a coolant which cools the collection chamber through an endothermic process to a temperature below freezing point of water so that the sample condenses or freezes on the capture surface. The device may contain a turbulence inducer 26 which enhances contact between the contact surface and breath of the user. The device may contain a vial 38. The coolant may be dry ice, or a mixture of two or more components. The biological sample may be analysed for detecting a target.
