Summary:A farming system for water-based farming includes a structural frame 202 including first to fourth edge members defining a farming cell wall. Plural cable assemblies 202 are coupled to the first edge member, each having a and a second end with the second end attached to the second edge member. A cable tensioner 210 is coupled to the first edge member and the first end of the cable, and a tension sensor 212 is coupled to the cable to measure a cable tension. A controller 204 receives a signal indicative of the tension of each cable from each sensor and operates each tensioner to maintain the tension level of each cable within a desired range e.g., between 15 and 75% of cable tensile strength. The frames may rectangular or wedge-shaped and be arranged radially of a central hub to form wedge shaped farming cells. Netting may be arranged on the frames to prevent escape of product, e.g., fish. Cable tension and thus net tension may be varied in response to tide or wind loading and sensed vibration may indicate predator attack or an underwater vehicle or the operator alerted to cable failure to mitigate product escape.
