Cationic contact lens

A silicone hydrogel contact lens includes a polymeric lens body that is the reaction product of a polymerizable composition including from 15-65 wt.% of at least one siloxane monomer, from 25-75 wt.% of at least one non-ionic hydrophilic monomer and from 0.1-15 wt% of N-(3-(dimethylamino)propyl) met...

Summary:A silicone hydrogel contact lens includes a polymeric lens body that is the reaction product of a polymerizable composition including from 15-65 wt.% of at least one siloxane monomer, from 25-75 wt.% of at least one non-ionic hydrophilic monomer and from 0.1-15 wt% of N-(3-(dimethylamino)propyl) methacrylamide. At least one releasable anionic agent is adhered to the polymeric lens body, the N-(3-(dimethylamino)propyl) methacrylamide facilitating uptake and/or sustained release of the at least one releasable anionic agent by the polymeric lens body. The at least one releasable anionic agent may be a fatty acid and/or a small molecule of molecular weight less than 900 daltons. Sustained release of the at least one releasable anionic agent by the polymeric lens body may be substantially linear for at least 8 hours when placed in an artificial tear solution. Linear regression of the release profile may also have an R-squared value of at least 0.90. A silicone hydrogel contact lens includes a polymeric lens body that is the reaction product of a polymerizable composition including from 25-55 wt.% of a siloxane monomer, from 30-55 wt.% of a vinyl monomer selected from N-vinyl pyrrolidone, N-vinyl-N-methyl acetamide or combinations thereof and from 0.1-15 wt% of N-(3-(dimethylamino)propyl) methacrylamide.
