Summary:A data capture device (100, figs. 4 and 5) for detecting optical data such as bar codes, comprising a primary housing 104 having inner (500, fig. 5) and outer (108, Fig. 4) surfaces; a mounting accessory 120 coupled to the inner surface of the housing, a thumb-operated trigger 128 on the mounting accessory, and a button on the outer surface of the primary housing. The button may be a contact type or contactless; perhaps a pressure sensor. There may be a latch (404, 408, Fig. 4) on the mounting accessory and hook 504, 508 on the primary housing, the mounting accessory configured to mount the device an index finger (202, Fig. 2) of an operator. The mounting accessory may also include electrical contacts (402, Fig. 4), perhaps with matching contacts (512, Fig. 5) on the inner surface. The device may include a scanning window 116.
