A haircare appliance 102 comprising a body 104 having a central bore 334 and an annular outlet configured to expel an airflow, and a visual indicator device 367 located within the bore and configured to visually indicate information associated with the haircare appliance. The device may illuminate at least a surface of the central bore. The device may comprise an illumination means (660,fig. 6) along with an optical element, such as a diffuser or a blocking or redirecting element (662, fig. 6), to direct light from the source onto the surface. Preferably, the illuminated surface is reflective. The visual indicator may be located at a central axis of the bore, or alternatively embedded within the body of the bore itself. The indicator may be a light emitting diode (LED). The indicator may be used to provide information such as an operational state of the appliance, or a property sensed by the appliance.
