Summary: | Half shell stator 12,14 of a vacuum pump, the half shell having a seal groove 50,52 with at least one protrusion 68 on a side wall 60 and at least one corresponding indentation 69 on an opposing side wall 62. The seal grooves 50,52 may be on a mating surface joining the two half stator shells (fig 5), and on the end surface of the half shells (fig 7) for sealing with the end plates 16,18 (fig 1). The seal grooves for the end plates may be closed-loop rings (fig 7), also having protrusions 78 and indentations 79. The protrusions may be continuous curved humps 68, and the indentations continuous curved voids 69. The bumps 68 may bias a gasket 26 towards and against the opposing side wall. The gasket 26 may be of uniform thickness, being wider and thicker than the seal groove 52. |
