Summary: | A web element 10 for connecting the timber chords of a joist or a truss. The web element has first 12a and second 14a elongate arms, and four connector portions or plates 12b, 12c, 14b, 14c for attaching the web element to the timber chords. Each of the arms has a connector at each end and there is a living hinge 34 connecting two of the connectors to one another. The living hinge may be bent to vary the angle between the arms. There may be a breakable or frangible potion in the living hinge such as a thinned or neck portion and the connector portions may be formed from a nail plate. There may be flanges 20, 120 at the edge of the elongate arms which may have a lug or tab which is positioned on the joist or timber chord. A joist or a truss comprising the web element, and a method of manufacturing a joist of a truss is also claimed. |
