Summary:A vacuum pump 1 comprises a motor 5, pump housing 7 and a pump display 9, controlled by a pump display controller 41 and mounted to the pump housing. The pump display controller includes a processor(s) 43 having an electrical input(s) (47-n, Fig 4) and an electrical output(s) (49-n, Fig 4). The electrical input(s) receives a pump operating signal (POS) indicating a transient operating parameter of the pump. The electrical output(s) generates a display control signal (DCS). The processor(s) generates the DCS in dependence on the POS. The pump display receives the DCS from the processor and provides a graphical representation of the operating parameter in dependence on the DCS. Preferably a sensor(s) 51-n may comprise a pressure sensor and the operating parameter an operating pressure. Preferably a motor controller 23 outputs the POS to the electrical input. The POS may comprise a motor control signal (MCS) and the operating parameter an operating speed of the motor. The processor(s) may generate the DCS to control the display to provide a graphical representation of a discrete value, a continuous value, a rate of an increase or a decrease in a magnitude of the operating parameter.
