Summary:An internal combustion engine assembly 100 comprising a fuel reformer 110, a combustion chamber 120 and a controller. The fuel reformer comprises a first channel 111 and a second channel 112, a portion of the second channel being adjacent to a portion of the first channel to facilitate heat exchange between the channels. The first channel comprises a catalyst and is configured to receive ammonia, pass the ammonia over the catalyst and output a mixture 132 comprising ammonia, hydrogen and nitrogen. The composition of the mixture depends on the temperature of the first channel. The combustion chamber is configured to receive the mixture 132 and an oxidant 133 which is combusted to produce heat and an exhaust product 134; and to output the product to the second channel of the reformer. The controller controls the engine such that the engine load exceeds a load threshold, wherein adjustment of the engine load controls the reformer temperature.
