Summary:An impact mechanism for a rotary impact tool comprises a gear carrier 220 that has a gear carrier end and a gear carrier aperture 240 extending into the gear carrier end. It further comprises an anvil 218 which has an anvil end and an anvil aperture 238 extending into the anvil end. The anvil end faces the gear carrier end with their respective apertures aligned. The mechanism further comprises a centering component 222 including opposing first and second ends, slidably received in the gear carrier and anvil apertures, thereby radially aligning and coupling the gear carrier and anvil. The centering component may include an axial bore 248 and may be received in the apertures using a slip-fit tolerance. An axial clearance may be provided between the ends of the centering component and the end walls of the anvil and gear carrier. The gear carrier may additionally include a through hole. The mechanism may further comprise a ball 232 that engages a circumferential groove 242 disposed on the gear carrier, and the anvil may include an output drive 210.
