Summary:A method and system for authenticating and door operation of an autonomous ride hailing service. Receiving, at a first electronic device a request to dispatch an autonomous vehicle 1402 dispatching the vehicle 1404 and generating and transmitting a passcode to a second electronic device associated with the user 1406 and the autonomous vehicle. Based on determination vehicle has arrived at first location 1408 determining if the doors are obstructed 1416 on determination that the doors are not obstructed opening the doors 1420. User inputs password 1422 to transmit between 2nd and 3rd electronic devices and once authenticated enabling start ride affordance 1430. The system may also check for obstructions before closing the doors and use biometrics as a means of authentication. The number of passengers and if they are using seatbelts may also be detected and used as a means of stopping the vehicle departing.
