Summary:A mechanism 30 and a method for inserting an elongate member (35 in figure 2) through an aperture of a body such a gas turbine or human/animal body for inspection or a process. The elongate member may be driven along a longitudinal axis 40 by a mechanism comprising a feed portion 42 having a feed actuator 43 which engages with and drives the elongate member along the longitudinal axis. A twist portion 44 comprising a twist actuator (82 in figure 8) which engage with the feed portion and rotates the elongate member about the longitudinal axis. Thus, driven axial and rotary movement is provided. The elongate member passes through a passage (38 in figure 4) of the mechanism and may be, for example, a hyper-redundant manipulator, a continuum robot, a snake arm, a borescope, an endoscope or other optical fibre measuring means.
