An apparatus 200 for welding together webs with first 202 and second 210 weld tools. The first weld tool 202 is rotatable about an axis X of rotation and has a cylindrical surface with a welding contact portion 204. The welding contact portion extends at least partly circumferentially around the cylindrical surface and at least partly axially along the cylindrical surface. The apparatus defined a web path where webs 140 that are to be welded together pass, and the rotational axis of thee first weld tool may be traverse with respect to the direction of the web path. The rotational axis of the first weld too may make an angle of less than 90 degrees with the direction of the web path. The apparatus may be used for the continuous production of strings of pocketed springs.
