Summary:A shape memory alloy (SMA) actuator for use in a device comprising a static portion 2, 3 and a moveable portion 1 comprises an SMA wire 5" which is connected between the static portion 2 and the moveable portion 1 and which is arranged, by contraction, to drive movement of the moveable portion. A strain relief mechanism comprising a sprung crimp 7" is connected to the SMA wire, and may protect the SMA wire from excessive stress caused by high temperature or, for example, by shock loads. The moveable portion 1 may be a haptic button.
