Summary:A fracture fixation system includes a plate 102 having a laterally extending bore configured to receive a first cerclage wire 108 when the plate is placed in contact with a bone. The plate has a recess 104 for receiving and securing a first end of a first wire 108 and includes an entry hole 115 and an exit hole 114 at opposite ends of a first bore to allow the first wire 108 to pass through the plate. A screw inserted in screw hole 120 is configured to engage and lock the wire 108 in the first bore to maintain a desired tension on the first wire 108. A second plate with a second bore to receive the first wire 108 may be located in use on the opposite side of the bone. A tightener which may be rotated to tension the wire 108 may be provided. A method of fracture fixation surgery is also disclosed.
