Summary:A haircare appliance 10 such as a hand-held curling barrel, comprises a blower (40, Fig. 2) for generating an airflow, a plurality of outlets (113, Fig. 5) through which the airflow is discharged in one of a clockwise direction and a counterclockwise direction, and an indicator (60, Fig. 2). The indicator has a first visual state when the airflow is discharged in a clockwise direction and a second visual state when the airflow is discharged in a counterclockwise direction. The appliance comprises a handle 20 that houses the blower and the indicator, and an attachment 100 that houses the outlets and provides an indication to the handle of the direction of airflow discharge. The discharge direction may be controlled by a moveable member (140, Fig. 4) that selectively blocks some of the outlets. The position of said member may be linked to a switch (133, Fig. 6). The visual indicator may be a ring of LEDs 61 that change state depending on the position of the switch. The member may be moved by a dial (120, Fig. 4). Data may be transmitted from the attachment to the handle via a RFID tag (130, Fig. 4) and reader (72, Fig. 3).
