System and method for bone fixation

A fracture fixation system comprises a cord (40, fig.47) for extending around a bone and a buckle 900 comprising first and second lock members 950, 952 at a proximal end 914, a first slot 909 between the first and second lock members and a second slot 908 between the second lock member and a buckle...

Summary:A fracture fixation system comprises a cord (40, fig.47) for extending around a bone and a buckle 900 comprising first and second lock members 950, 952 at a proximal end 914, a first slot 909 between the first and second lock members and a second slot 908 between the second lock member and a buckle distal end 912. The cord (40) can extend through the slots 909, 908 and around lock members 950, 952 to tighten the cord and provide fixation of the fracture by bone cerclage. The second lock member 952 comprises a concave engagement surface 954 for receiving overlapping sections (40A, 40B) of said cord. The concave surface centralises the cord sections, preventing them from migrating or getting bunched up. Ideally, the distal end has a hook 910 for engaging a loop (44) on the cord. A tensioner for the cord may also be provided.
