Summary:An apparatus for the disaggregation of tissue comprising a first cutting zone 17 that comprises a first cutting blade configured to rotate about a first rotational axis, and an opening 11 for the ingress of tissue. The opening 11 is oriented at an angle to the first rotational axis. The first cutting blade may be helical. The opening 11 may be orientated substantially perpendicularly to the first rotational axis. There may be a second cutting zone 18 that comprises a second cutting blade configured to rotate around a second rotational axis. The second cutting blade may be helical. The first and second rotational axes may be coaxial. Another aspect is a tissue processing device further comprising a lid (4, Fig. 1A), a base comprising an outer casing (2, Fig. 1A) and a tissue receiving portion (37, Fig. 1B) disposed within outer casing (2, Fig. 1A), wherein the base is configured to be attached to the lid (4, Fig. 1A). Another aspect is a method involving adding tissue to the tissue processing device, docking the device in a processing system, operating the tissue disaggregation portion (10, Fig 1B), and extracting disaggregated tissue from the tissue processing device.
