Summary:Disclosed is a vibratory feeder with a feeder plate comprising a laminate of two layers (fig 10). The first upper layer (fig 10 17) is solid and the second lower layer (fig 10 18) comprises voids. Preferably a third solid layer underlies the second layer (fig 11 19). The second layer may comprise one of the following materials; metal foam, sintered metal, ceramic, a foamed polymer, glass or an aerogel. The second layer may alternatively comprise an arrangement of spacers or a cellular matrix (fig 13). Preferably the stiffness of the laminated plate is greater than the stiffness of a feeder plate made from the materials of the first layer alone. The feeder plate may have an isotropic stiffness. The feeder plate may take the form of a scarf plate 2.
