Summary:A headband 10 for a wearable electronic device (100,200, figs 5, 6 & 7) includes a first end portion 12, a second end portion 14, and a central portion 16 disposed between the first and second end portions. The first and second end portions 12, 14 are connected to the central portion 16 by a male/female extension mechanism for adjusting a length of the headband 10. The first end portion 12 comprises a battery compartment 22 for receiving batteries 24, 26. The batteries lie at an oblique angle to each other. The second end portion 14 may comprise a similar battery compartment 38. The wearable electronic device may be headphones (fig 5) or a head-worn air purifying device employing an active noise cancelling system (fig 6).
