Summary:A heating unit 42 for a hair styling appliance comprises a rigid mounting and a flexible support member mounted within the rigid mounting 52. The flexible support member 66 supports a heating element 68 so that the heating element is able to flex with the support member relative to the rigid mounting. The flexible support member is preferably received within a recess 54 defined in the rigid mounting. The flexible support member preferably has a support surface (78, fig. 9) a base portion (76, fig.9) and a support structure between the base and the surface. The support structure may define a plurality of openings (82, fig.9) which extend through the flexible support member from one side to the other. A pillar structure (586, fig.14) may define the plurality of openings. The rigid mounting may be a separate unit which is mounted within a housing for the hair styling appliance.
