Summary:A surface cleaning apparatus comprises a surface cleaning head 108, an upper portion 104 moveably mounted to the surface cleaning head, the upper portion comprising an interior and a cleaning head electrical engagement 1042 member provided within the interior, a portable surface cleaning unit removably mounted to the upper portion, a cleaning wand 180 having a lower end that includes a wand electrical engagement member 1038 removably receivable in the interior, a wand lock having a locked position and an unlocked position in which the wand is removable from the upper portion and an electrified flexible air flow conduit electrically connecting the wand to the surface cleaning head when the lower end of the wand is received in the interior. The surface cleaning apparatus is operable in a floor cleaning configuration in which the portable surface cleaning unit is mounted to the upper portion and an above floor cleaning configuration in which the lower end of the wand is removed from the interior and, in the floor cleaning configuration. In the locked position, the wand is secured to the upper portion.
