Summary:A dome body 2 has an apex 3 and an outer periphery, the apex located on a first plane 4 and the outer periphery located on a second plane 6. A peripheral skirt or flange 5 extends at least partially around the outer periphery of the dome body, and at an angle 7 of less than 180° with respect to a tangent 8 relative to the dome body at the outer periphery of the dome body. A variety of shapes are described (figs 1 to 13). The peripheral skirt or flange 5 may be formed integrally with the dome body 2 or it may be formed separately and later attached to the dome body. One or both of the dome body 2 and the peripheral skirt or flange 5 are formed from polycrystalline diamond in a chemical vapour deposition (CVD) manufacturing process.
