Summary:The loudspeaker comprises a resonant planar panel 14 and a drive unit 24 for exciting the panel into a vibrational state. The drive unit comprises one or more magnets 31, 32 and a foot provided by a coil former 29 coupled 26 to the panel. The cross-sectional area of the foot defines an inner region of the panel. A support frame is fixedly mounted to a periphery of the panel. The biasing magnet 40 is supported in the inner region of the panel (figs 3a, 3b). The biasing magnet either repels or attracts the one or more magnets 31, 32 so as to bias the rest position of the panel. The biasing magnet 40 may also be attached to the front or rear face of the panel (figs 4, 5).
