Summary:A two-part curable composition for use in adhesive systems comprising [a] a first part comprising a cyanoacrylate, such as ethyl cyanoacrylate, a silica having hydrophobic groups and hydrophilic groups on a surface thereof, such as Aerosil (RTM) R805, R816, R972 or Cab-O-Sil (RTM) TS 720 and a cationic catalyst, such as LiBF4 (lithium tetrafluoroborate), fluoroboric acid or fluoroarsenic; and [b] a second part comprising a cationic curable component, such as an epoxy component, an episulfide, an oxetane or a vinyl ether component and combinations thereof, and wherein when mixed together the cationic catalyst initiates cure of the cationic curable component. Also disclosed is a composition comprising a cyanoacrylate, a silica having hydrophobic groups and hydrophilic groups on a surface, such as Aerosil (RTM) R805, R816, R972 or Cab-O-Sil (RTM) TS 720 and a cationic catalyst, such as LiBF4 (lithium tetrafluoroborate), fluoroboric acid or fluoroarsenic.
