Summary:An ammonia generation and storage system comprising a first exhaust conduit 110 connected to and receiving a first exhaust stream 106 from a first engine 102; a second exhaust conduit 118 connected to and receiving a second exhaust stream 108 from a second engine 104; an exhaust treatment device 114 fluidly coupled to the second exhaust conduit downstream of the second engine and configured to convert at least a portion of nitrogen oxides in the second exhaust stream into ammonia; and an ammonia storage device 120 fluidly coupled to the second exhaust conduit, where the ammonia storage device is configured to receive and store in a storage material 122 at least a portion of the converted ammonia as stored ammonia. Preferably the storage material is salt that is activated to release at least a portion of the Ammonia into the first and/or second exhaust stream at a predefined temperature, which is controlled by a controller. A method of reducing nitrogen oxides in an exhaust is also claimed.
