Summary:An exhaust valve actuation system 200 for an engine (100, Fig 1) includes a reservoir 202, a first valve 204, a first cylinder 206, a second cylinder 214, an accumulator 222, and a second valve 224; during a cam lobe event of a cam 210, the first cylinder 206 is adapted to retract based on a movement of the cam 210 and provide a fluid pressure to each of the accumulator 222 and the second cylinder 214; the accumulator 222 is adapted to maintain the fluid pressure acting on the second cylinder 214 within a first threshold and vent excess fluid pressure beyond the first threshold to a tank 203; During a combustion stroke, the second cylinder 214 is adapted to extend and operate an exhaust valve 220 based, at least in part, on dropping of a combustion cylinder pressure below a second threshold. The invention is intended to overcome the disadvantages of turbo lag and drop in temperature of exhaust treatment apparatus during certain operating conditions of an engine.
