Summary:A fault mapping method for one or more outgoing cables of a power distribution network comprises the steps of: marking one or more fault impedance markings adjacent to the route of the one or more cables on a cable record; and making the marked cable record available in response to an estimated fault impedance of a cable fault. The cable record may be a map showing the route of the cables from a substation 112 along various branches 104 - 110. The impedance markings 102 may be in milliohms at intervals to give a desired resolution. When a fault is detected, its impedance may be matched to locations A, B, C on the map matching the fault impedance. The map is made available to a field operative, e.g. as an app for a mobile computing device.
