Summary:Predicting future production from a well by beginning a pressure transient test within a well at a wellsite and obtaining pressure measurements 140 of well fluid during the pressure transient test. Then the obtained pressure measurements are used to determine, through inversion 150 and while continuing the pressure transient test, probabilistic estimates of input parameters 160 of a pressure transient reservoir model. Then future production from the well is estimated based on the probabilistic estimates of the input parameters of the pressure transient reservoir model determined through inversion. In an alternative embodiment, the inversion step is not required. In an alternative embodiment a production prediction reservoir model is generated and a pressure transient test to be performed within a well at a wellsite is refined based on the comparison of the quantified contributions of uncertainty in the input parameters to the uncertainties in the pressure transient response output and the predicted production output so as to reduce uncertainty in an estimated future production from the well.
