Summary:A fender assembly for a motor vehicle comprises a fender panel 110 and a bracket 120 coupling panel 110 to a frame 8 of the vehicle, wherein bracket 120 is configured to initiate buckling of a portion 110a of panel 110 forwards of bracket 120 during a collision of the motor vehicle by virtue of the stiffness of the connection between panel 110 and bracket 120; buckling may occur at a front of bracket 120. Fender panel 110 may be a front fender. Bracket 120 may be welded to frame 8 and be made of thicker material than frame 8. Panel 110 may lack connections to frame 8 along an upper edge rear of bracket 120; panel 110 may also lack buckling initiation features. Bracket 120 may prevent rearward deflection of panel 110 during collision, which may prevent panel 110 colliding with and damaging a door panel.
