Summary:A system for bone fixation comprises a fixation device or bone plate 52 with a bone-spanning plate 56 and first and second mounting portions or clips 60 configured to be disposed either side of a bone 54, such as a rib, and interconnected by a collapsible portion which is configured to collapse when the mounting portions 60 are urged towards each other by an installation tool. Bone screw fasteners 64 extend from one of the mounting portions, through the bone, to the other mounting portion. In use, an installation tool with jaws is connected to apertures in the two mounting portions and urges the two mounting portions toward each other to clamp the device to the bone with the apertures aligned with each other on a fastener-receiving axis.
